PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Terminal D at Philadelphia International Airport is still running on a generator after two power outages disrupted travel over the busy holiday weekend.
PHL spokesperson Heather Redfern says crews found that a fault in the cabling system caused the first outage, which lasted more than 16 hours Friday into Saturday. The airport brought in a generator, but Redfern says it only worked for a little more than a day.
“The generator stopped working on Sunday afternoon and they needed to bring in a second generator,” Redfern said.
That second generator is still operating and powering the airline check-in areas and concessions. Redfern says Terminal D should be back to commercial power sometime Tuesday.
There have been no cancellations, but Redfern says the power outages caused 70 flight delays on Saturday and 24 on Sunday.
PHL officials said they anticipated more than 1 million passengers to fly in or out between Nov. 22 and Dec. 3.
