PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the suspects known as the "Beef Bandits" — arrested last September for stealing beef from a tractor-trailer in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia — has made a deal with prosecutors.
Douglas Mathis pleaded guilty on Tuesday to theft, conspiracy and evading arrest, among other charges. In the deal with prosecutors, he was sentenced to time served, followed by up to two years in prison with probation.
Mathis, Jamir Scott and Tariq Duncan were accused of breaking into a tractor-trailer and trying to take 1,600 pounds of beef, worth $7,000.
Scott pleaded guilty in March to similar offenses and was sentenced to probation.
Duncan had also pleaded guilty to his involvement, but was shot and killed in Roxborough in April, before his sentencing hearing. His homicide remains unsolved.
