PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is dead and another is in custody after a two-hour standoff in Bensalem Friday night.

Police say two men were pulled over around 5 p.m. for having too much tint in the windows of their gray sedan. During the traffic stop, police say the men became noncompliant, told the officers they were armed and not going back to prison, then sped off.

A chase ensued and police and state troopers eventually boxed the driver's car in front of a Liberty gas station on Bristol Pike near Biddle Lane and Penn Court.

“After approximately two hours of negotiations trying to get these individuals to surrender, gas was deployed two times, at which point the driver of the vehicle produced a handgun and was fired upon by our SWAT team,” said Bensalem Chief of Public Safety William McVey.

McVey says the 30-year-old driver died. The passenger was taken into custody without injuries.

McVey says he is thankful no other individuals were injured.

Bensalem police say the situation is under control and there is no threat to the community. Police remained on-scene throughout the night. Bristol Pike was closed between Biddle Lane and Penn Street.

The officers involved in this shooting are on administrative leave, per policy.
