5-year-old boy injured after accidentally firing gun in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 5-year-old boy was injured Saturday after accidentally firing a gun, according to Philadelphia police. A 24-year-old man has been arrested.

Officers said they were called to a hospital after the child was brought in with a laceration to his left hand.

Investigators said the boy’s 21-year-old sister had taken him to a home in the Feltonville section of North Philadelphia. At some point, the child reportedly found a gun inside the home and fired it, causing the injury.

Police said a 24-year-old man, Nasir Baskerville, who was inside the home at the time has been taken into custody. He is charged with recklessly endangering another person and gun offenses.

The investigation is ongoing.
