PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 5-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was seriously hurt in a four-car crash that happened in the Frankford section of Northeast Philadelphia Monday night.
The boy was with his mother in one of three cars stopped at Aramingo Avenue and Wakeling Street. Around 7:30 p.m., another car came flying down Aramingo, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.
“The striking vehicle … was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck one or more of these stopped vehicles that were stopped at the red light,” Small said.
The impact caused a chain-reaction crash. The 5-year-old boy was the only one who was injured. He suffered serious head trauma and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
There was a 6-year-old girl in another car but her father told police that though she was shaken up, she was not physically hurt.
Police spoke to all the drivers, including the person who was speeding and started the crash.
Small said the posted speed limit was 30 miles per hour. He did not indicate how fast the speeding driver was going.
It was not immediately made clear by police if charges would be filed.
