PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police said an 11-year-old boy shot and killed his mother’s boyfriend Thursday night, allegedly, to protect her.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. inside a home on South Peach Street in Kingsessing. When police arrived, they found 30-year-old Jaimeer Jones-Walker, of Lansdowne, unresponsive in the second-floor rear bedroom, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Police said Jones-Walker showed up at the boy’s mother’s house, and the two got into an altercation.

“It was verbal, and possibly turned into a physical altercation,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Authorities believe that’s when the boy fired the gun.

“Next to his body, there was one spent shell casing, so we know one shot was fired from the semi-automatic weapon,” Small said.

Jones-Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives said he was double-parked on the street right outside the home. They said cameras in the neighborhood may help them figure out what led to the fatal encounter.

The boy and his mother are cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed.
