PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Brandywine Valley SPCA is assisting partner organizations in flood-ravaged Texas by welcoming a rescue flight with 35 adoptable pets on board.
The dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that were flown to the Brandywine Valley SPCA were already in the shelter system in Central Texas before the flooding began there earlier this month.
Brandywine Valley SPCA spokesperson Sara Smith said relocating the animals helps open up kennel space amid rescue efforts.
“By moving out animals that were already in kennels in shelters, we can allow the shelters on the ground to focus on the recovery efforts, the relief efforts, the reuniting efforts,” she said. “They are out on the ground, helping to reunite pets that might have been separated from their families.”
The animals will be available at Brandywine Valley SPCA’s New Castle and West Chester locations, as well as the Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold, New Jersey, and in Georgetown, Delaware.
“We are actually offering pick-your-price adoptions for all large adult dogs — 40 pounds plus and 1-year-old plus — and adult cats, 6 months plus, at all of our locations, all week long through Sunday,” Smith said. “It’s just another way that we can make space for this flight of animals that came in and to be able to say yes if the call comes again.”
The effort is made possible by a partnership between the Brandywine Valley SPCA, Wings of Rescue, Best Friends Animals Society and others.
