PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Dozens of homeless cats and dogs from recently flood-ravaged parts of Texas are up for adoption after being relocated to the Delaware Valley.

Two rescue flights brought a total of 33 cats and dogs into the Brandywine Valley SPCA’s care.

The animals were already in the shelter system in Texas before the deadly floods. The goal is to free up space in Texas shelters to make room for pets that were displaced and, hopefully, reunite them with their owners.

“Like many shelters across the country, we’re at capacity, but we couldn’t say no,” said Erin Johnston, spokesperson for the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

The animals are up for adoption at Brandywine’s facilities in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and New Castle, Delaware, as well as its Animal Adoption Center in Lindenwold, New Jersey.

“We have a lot of great animals,” Johnston said. “We had a few that were adopted over the weekend shortly after they arrived, but the rest are ready and waiting for their forever family.”
