PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Phillies All-Star Bryce Harper has spoken out in the wake of the controversy surrounding a Cameo video he made.
The “holiday video” was made in 2024 for a man named Terry Thompson, requested by someone who identified themself as “Bryttanni."
The Philadelphia Inquirer obtained the Cameo video. In it, Harper said, “Your host Bryttanni from FanDuel wanted to make sure your Thanksgiving was extra special, so I wanted to hop on here and wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving.”
Thompson reportedly is dealing with a gambling addiction and is party to a lawsuit against FanDuel after he lost significant money betting through the site.
On Monday, Harper posted to his Instagram story saying FanDuel used the video, placed its logo on it and “used it as a gambling promotion.”
He noted that Cameo has a separate category for business video requests, and that he did not know that video would be used for commercial purposes.
“Had I known FanDuel's true intent, I would not have made the video. The same is true had I known anything about Terry or his situation, or about any alleged ‘partnership’ between Cameo and FanDuel,” Harper wrote in his Instagram story. “What happened here went beyond anything I knew about or approved.”
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said it is examining the video.
