PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 911 computer dispatch system in Bucks County is down because of a “cybersecurity incident.”
In a message sent to police, fire and EMS chiefs on Monday, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency said the cybersecurity incident is affecting the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
“The CAD system has been offline since Sunday afternoon, and there is currently no projected timeframe for restoration,” the message reads, in part. “County IT is working to assess the issue and restore CAD service. The County has engaged state and federal partner agencies to assist in our response and investigation.”
As work is being done to fix the issue, the county is disconnected from Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and the United States’ National Crime Information Center (NCIC), officials said.
All phone and radio systems are still operational.
The county’s message did not include specific details about the problem, and a county spokesperson did not elaborate.
Officials stressed, though, that Bucks County residents are still able to call 911 and get the help they need. Residents can get through to the emergency communications center, but dispatchers are documenting all the calls and information by hand.
