Bucks County woman sentenced for letting baby girl die in her unlicensed day care

A judge called Lauren Landgrebe’s actions callous, adding she caused a lifetime of heartache for the baby’s family

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Bucks County woman is sentenced for letting an 11-month-old in her care die while she was running an illegal day care center out of her home.

Bucks County Judge Wallace Bateman called Lauren Landgrebe’s actions callous, adding she caused a lifetime of heartache for the baby’s family.

“They have been in a state of constant grief since the incident occurred,” added prosecutor Monica Furber. “They are utterly devastated from the defendant’s actions.”

Landgrebe, 50, pleaded guilty in June to involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, and operating a day care center without a license.

Judge Bateman sentenced her to one to two years in county jail, followed by 10 years probation.

Furber says the girl was one of eight children in Landgrebe’s care on Aug. 27, 2019 in her home on Rosebud Road in Upper Southampton.

Landgrebe strapped the girl into a car seat for a nap.

“She latched the chest restraint and not the leg restraint,” said Furber. “She put her on the dining room table without a base, without a monitor, and then went outside to care for two other children and sit by the pool.”

The girl slid down in the restraint and was asphyxiated. Landgrebe’s husband found her unresponsive about two hours later.

Her father described the girl as “the sweetest baby you can imagine.”
