SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A 55-year-old woman from Burlington County was sentenced to eight years in prison for driving drunk and killing a teenager in 2021.
Wanda Sprague of Pemberton Township pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the fall, under an agreement with the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
Police say that on Dec. 16, 2021, Sprague was driving drunk at 90 miles per hour and did not have her car's headlights on when she crashed head-on into a vehicle that Kayla Bowen, 17, was driving near the intersection of Lakehurst Road and Rancocas Lane.
Prosecutors said that Sprague’s blood alcohol level after the crash was .188, twice the legal limit.
Bowen died at the scene.
Sprague said when making her guilty plea that she did not have any recollection of the crash. She will be serving her time in New Jersey state prison.
