PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A temporary business recovery center has opened at the Philadelphia Fire Department Engine 38 training facility for business owners impacted by the I-95 crash.

Jim Accurso is a public affairs specialist at the Office of Disaster, Recovery and Resilience for the United States Small Business Administration. He says specialists are available in person to help eligible business owners apply for these loans.

“They’re gonna need a couple of years of tax information, you know, maybe some p and ls and then anything else that they can show that they had a loss,” Accurso added.

The center is open six days a week through July 21, but low interest loan applications will be available online until March 29, 2024. Business owners are eligible for up to $200,000.

Vernon F. Miller, CEO of VFM Investments, lost money not being able to transport construction materials when a portion of I-95 collapsed last month. He says if he’s eligible, he will apply.

“Here we go with another situation because a lot of people are still trying to recover from COVID,” Miller said. “We keep taking too many hits, so it’s good to see that the SBA and other state agencies and resources are helping out.”

Jamie Wermuth is the co-owner of City Distilling and, even though this is their busiest time of the year, most people can’t get to them.

“Before the collapse, our business was up from last year,” he said. “Then once that happened, everything just dropped.”
