PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating an apparent road rage shooting that left a bystander critically injured in the city’s Kensington section.
It happened around 10 a.m. Friday, near the 600 block of East Indiana Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a shooting and found a gray Nissan Altima with bullet holes.
Police said the car’s owner was at the scene and told them he and another person were involved in a shootout. He provided a valid permit to carry a firearm, surrendered his weapon, and was taken into custody.
The other driver was later stopped and arrested by highway patrol officers on the 600 block of East Tusculum Street.
A 27-year-old woman was later found near B Street and Indiana Avenue with a gunshot wound to the stomach. She told police she was walking along Indiana Avenue when she was hit by gunfire.
She was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
Paul Fetzer, who grew up in Kensington, called the shooting senseless.
“That lady, whoever she is, she didn’t deserve that. These young kids today have no respect; they have no morals. It’s all about the right upbringing,” he said.
Police have not released the names of the drivers. The investigation is ongoing.
