CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Crews completed a $12 million repaving project on a section of Kings Highway in Camden County a few weeks ahead of schedule.

This time last year, this section of Kings Highway in Audubon, Haddon Heights and Mount Ephraim was a pretty rough ride, featuring a patchwork of uneven concrete and potholes. Now, it’s as silky smooth as can be.

“Just look how beautiful she is, and boy, did I have a nice, smooth ride getting here this morning!” Mount Ephraim Mayor Susan Carney exclaimed on Thursday. “This is a landmark project that can be described as nothing less than a transformative victory for our residents, our businesses and other stakeholders throughout South Jersey.”

Haddon Heights Mayor Zachary Houck said the results speak for themselves: “Not only a smoother ride, but as you could all hear — a very quiet ride.”

In addition to repaving, crews replaced sewer lines that were more than 100 years old and improved the sidewalks.

“Now when I take a walk on Saturdays, I’ll be able to walk straight to the lake because there are sidewalks in front of homes that were never there before,” enthused Audubon Mayor Rob Jakubowski.

Crews also added some parking while making existing parking areas safer with a buffer zone between passing traffic.
