PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Camden County announced plans to build a new homeless housing and support center in Gloucester Township.
“This facility would include 60 housing units and offer critical support for people experiencing homelessness,” Camden County Commissioner Director Lou Cappelli said.
The proposed center would also provide wraparound services.
“Getting identification, obtaining jobs with the ultimate goal of placing those individuals into permanent housing,” he said.
Cappelli said the project started as a pilot program with 23 beds at the Lakeland facility in Gloucester Township. The latest iteration expanded on that program with a $22 million investment, which came out to more than $350,000 per unit.
“[It] includes a small kitchen, a small bedroom, and a nice living space. In addition to that, there will be a community center and also some rooms for individual meetings, and rooms to provide the services we are going to provide,” Cappelli shared.
County officials said construction is underway.
