Camden officials: Please don't stalk COVID-19 vaccination clinics for leftover doses

CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Vaccination sites from throughout the region are reporting people waiting outside all day just for a chance to possibly get a dose that is leftover. Officials in Camden County are saying please don't do that.

Some people have been sitting in their cars all day outside the vaccination site at Camden County College hoping to get lucky.

"We're trying to do away with that," CCC nurse Margarita Camacho said, but she says she understands the concern and desperation some people are feeling.

"It's not safe to have people waiting in the parking lot just at a chance that maybe they can get a vaccine. So we definitely tell people not to do that. If we do have anything extra, we do have a list, and ... we do prioritize elderly or those that qualify."

Camden County Commissioner Director Lou Cappelli says they want to ensure fairness so there's no cutting the line.

"We just go through our list. There is no extra list. Those who are registered on our website will be contacted," Cappelli said.

He says in the event there were no shows or they have doses that might soon expire, the nurses and staff will call people who are scheduled for the following day to come in and keep calling until they find enough people so nothing goes to waste.
