Investigators are still trying to piece together what caused a car crash that killed a 32-year-old mother and injured her young son.

Kelly Ann Carter Herman died Saturday night along Bustleton Avenue near Rennard Street in the city’s Somerton section after police say a 21-year-old man disregarded a red light and struck another car that hit two others.

Detectives are trying to figure out whether Herman and her son were on the sidewalk at the time.

The child was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he remains in extremely critical condition.

The intersection where this all happened is the same spot where Philadelphia police officer Henri Gonski was killed this time last year.

Just last week, the man charged in that crash — Aleksandr Melnikov — pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter charges and is now set to be sentenced in September — facing decades in prison.

Officials warn drivers to slow down and pay attention to the road.
