Medical Report: Caregivers of loved ones with dementia also face challenges

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 11 million Americans spent 30 hours per week per providing caregiver support for loved ones with dementia in 2022.

The physical and psychological impact on the caregiver can be devastating. While there is no easy way to reduce the burden, there are things that can be done.

For instance, in the early stages, planning one’s finances and finding resources to assist are important steps.

Family support as well as the potential for long-term care need to be discussed — especially if the person with early-stage dementia can participate in the decision-making process at the start.
