PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people were injured after a carjacking suspect fled police and crashed into an SUV driven by a school principal in the city’s Tacony neighborhood.
Early Wednesday morning, officers tried to stop a car they believed was involved in a series of carjackings, but it sped away, going the wrong direction on Tulip Street, near Princeton Avenue.
Officials said police did not chase the car.
The car then struck an SUV at the intersection. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
The driver in the offending vehicle fled on foot into a nearby alley, where he was arrested, police said.
The driver of the SUV was the principal of the nearby Creative Learning Environments school. Both the suspect and the occupant of the SUV were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries.
The impact left a large debris field. Several parked cars were damaged as well. Police and city workers were on site cleaning it up well into the afternoon.
Police said the suspect will face charges.
