PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Prosecutors have dropped murder and other charges against one of the men accused in last summer’s deadly mass shooting in South Philadelphia.
Jihad Gray has been behind bars for seven months. On July 7, 2025, police said a random gunshot prompted others to open fire on Etting Street, leaving three people dead and nine others wounded.
Assistant District Attorney Cydney Pope told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Gray “is not culpable for this crime.” She said new evidence undermined statements made by a key witness, who told police that Gray was one of the shooters.
Four other men are being held for trial in the case. Police are still searching for another suspect.
Gray still faces aggravated assault and intimidation charges in a separate case.
