PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 13-year-old Collegeville boy is facing murder charges for shooting his 12-year-old sister earlier this month. The mother of the two children is also facing charges.
On March 19, police were called to 31-year-old Daisy Vasquez’s home on Larchwood Court in the Perkiomen Woods neighborhood in Collegeville. They found her 12-year-old daughter dead from a gunshot wound.
According to charging documents, initially Vasquez told police she was holding the gun when it accidentally went off. But the affidavit of probable cause says the shooting was caught on video on the home’s surveillance system and it shows Vasquez’s 13-year-old son pointing the gun at his sister and pulling the trigger.
Investigators say Vasquez changed her story and admitted to trying to protect her son.
She says she asked him to go out to the car to get her gun and was getting in the shower when she heard a gunshot.
The affidavit of probable cause says she legally purchased the gun, it was registered to her and she had a permit to carry.
Her 13-year-old son is charged with third-degree murder. Vasquez is facing felony endangering the welfare of a child, hindering apprehension or prosecution, and recklessly endangering another person.
