PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Cheltenham School District will cancel the 2026 football season for both its varsity and JV teams.
Dr. Brian W. Scriven, the district's superintendent, announced the news on Tuesday.
The 2025 season was previously suspended following an investigation that found a "toxic and negative culture" and a student-on-student assault in the team's locker room, which 19 students witnessed.
Scriven said several critical tasks that need to happen before the program can resume have not yet been completed.
The district said the high school's 9th grade team will have its 2026 season. It also said it will work with coaches and advisors to provide opportunities for the pep band, drum line, color guard, and cheerleading squad to perform without a football season.
