NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — There’s been a shakeup in Cherry Hill leadership, as democratic Mayor Susan Shin Angulo announced she is not seeking reelection in the fall.
“The last three years have been incredibly challenging,” Shin Angulo said.
She added she’s grateful for the opportunity to have led Cherry Hill through the pandemic, and that she’s not sure where her journey will take her next.
With her step down, democratic sitting Council President David Fleisher has been selected and endorsed by several former mayors to run on the party line.
Fleisher says he wants to continue doing what has made Cherry Hill the place so many families want to be. He added he’ll be a steady financial hand to guide the town into the future if he’s elected.
“And there’s three primary objectives of being fiscally responsible,” he said.
“We have a history of a dozen balanced budgets with no tax increases. Keeping our neighborhoods safe and clean, and basically protecting the other things that make Cherry Hill special – our parks and historic properties, our library and programs for families, seniors and veterans. All critical and we will all be revitalizing those programs.”
In the 2019 election, democrats won 64% to 36% in the mayoral race.
