PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Chester said the Memorial Park Pool was closed Monday after a child who recently visited the park was diagnosed with hand-foot-and-mouth disease.

In a statement, the city said the pool was closed immediately for water treatment, in addition to sanitizing other surfaces.

The pool is expected to reopen Tuesday, according to the city's Facebook page.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a common children's virus, and spreads through close contact with an infected person or contaminated surfaces. Most cases are mild and clear up within seven to 10 days.

City officials said parents should monitor their children for symptoms, like fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, and painful spots or blisters on their hands, feet and mouth, and consult your healthcare provider if symptoms appear.
