PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Chester, Delaware County, reportedly shot a man who had shot a woman in an act of domestic violence.
It happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday near Ninth and Walnut streets.
Authorities said officers found a woman on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the gunman had shot the woman.
Police said the suspect fired at civilians before pointing his gun at officers, who then shot him. Both the woman and gunman were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their identities and conditions have not yet been released.
It appeared that a number of shots were fired; there were about 20 evidence markers scattered on the ground as police were investigating.
The ages and conditions of the two people who were wounded have not been released.
The entire incident is under investigation. Chester police and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office are going over the evidence, though District Attorney Tanner Rouse said a review of the video footage obtained by investigators shows the officers were justified in shooting the suspect.
"The actions of the Chester Police Department were nothing short of lifesaving and the Defendant in this case had every intention to kill anyone he could," Rouse said. "I’m grateful that they are all unharmed and everyone is hoping with everything they can that the female victim survives these catastrophic injuries.”
Rouse said charges will be filed once the investigation is complete.
