PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A child is dead after a fire inside a North Philadelphia row home.
Fire crews arrived at a row home on the 1900 block of North 25th Street just after 5 p.m. Friday and saw light smoke coming from the first floor. Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Bompadre says they were then informed that a boy was trapped on the second floor.
The 12-year-old was located and brought to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Robert Riley lives down the street and said he tried to help after he heard the boy’s brother screaming for help.
“And I ran down there and I saw all the smoke and I snatched the door open, but it was so much smoke I couldn't get to it, you know, and it's a sad day around here today. That's all I could say,” Riley said.
