PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The CEO of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is retiring this fall after spending decades at the hospital network.
Madeline Bell announced on social media on Tuesday that she’s stepping down as head of the hospital on Oct. 1.
“I have been so proud to witness many breakthroughs during my time at CHOP,” she said in a video announcement. “Our team has made incredible advances in many areas of medicine, including cell and gene therapy. We’ve expanded access to behavioral health care and built an incredible care network to bring care closer to home.”
Dr. Joe Mitchell, CHOP’s current president, will take on her role.
In a statement, Mitchell said he and the CHOP team will “keep advancing our work to ensure all children, in Philadelphia and beyond, have the opportunity to thrive.”
Bell has spent almost 40 years with CHOP, 11 of them as CEO.
