ChristianaCare expands facilities in Aston, opening outpatient center above community hospital

ASTON, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The ChristianaCare health care network is expanding its footprint in Delaware County with the next phase of its Aston Campus, giving residents some much-needed options for care.

Christiana’s $19.3 million Aston Campus already boasted a 20,000-square foot community hospital on its first floor.

However, it wasn’t making full use of its space. The new ChristianaCare Healthcare Center at Aston opened its doors this week on the second floor.

“We will be providing outpatient services to complement our Aston neighborhood hospital,” said ChristianaCare’s Pauline Corso, who said they identified primary care and imaging as the two biggest medical needs in the community.

“We’re starting with those most critical needs with an opportunity to partner with a well established cardiology group, then we will continue to assess additional needs and grow from there.”

Corso said the full 40,000-square medical facility helps fill a major gap that was left when Crozer Health System closed its doors in Delaware County, following the bankruptcy of its parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings.

“The community is just so happy to have high quality, easily accessible care convenient to where they live,” she said.

This is just the start of ChristianaCare’s work in Delaware County, according to Corso, who told KYW Newsradio the health system plans to open a similar campus next fall in Springfield.
