PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — ChristianaCare is expanding its footprint in Pennsylvania. The Delaware state-based health care system is opening a new hospital and health center in Aston, Delaware County.
The 40,000-square-foot facility, which is slated to open in the fall of 2026, will include a 24/7 fully staffed emergency department, 10 emergency department bays, and some acute care beds.
Jennifer Schwartz, Christiana’s chief strategy and legal officer, said it comes at a much-needed time.
“Other systems had to close or limit services in Delaware County, and at the end of the day, this neighborhood hospital with a health center concept is really about a sustainable model,” she said. “It’s the right footprint, the right size, that will be sustainable well into the future so that we can continue to serve Delaware County residents.”
The $50 million facility's health center will occupy the second floor.
“The health center will have primary care services and specialty services to complement access that’s being provided by the neighborhood hospital,” said Schwartz.
She estimates the new health campus will also create about 50 to 70 new jobs in the neighborhood.
ChristianaCare currently has another hospital facility in Pennsylvania, located in Chester County.
