PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Wilmington, Delaware-based ChristianaCare has won a bid at bankruptcy auction to purchase several of Crozer’s outpatient facilities in Delaware County.
The winning bid was $50.3 million. ChristianaCare is planning to take over operations at five outpatient locations — two along Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills, as well as locations in Havertown, Broomall and Media.
“We have really been working over the recent months to continue to improve access to high quality care for Delaware County and the neighbors surrounding that,” said Jennifer Schwartz, ChristianaCare’s chief strategy and legal officer.
“What this will do is it will really allow us to keep operational those important programs and services that have been provided by Crozer for a number of years at these outpatient locations.”
However, the organization needs court approval before it can move ahead with the acquisition.
“We are anticipating right now that it will be approximately 30 days [to close the deal]. It's all subject to the court approving us moving forward, but once that occurs, we expect it will take us approximately 30 days to close,” said Schwartz.
“Being able to keep these access points opened and available to the community is really what is exciting about this.”
ChristianaCare is also opening a hospital in West Grove, Chester County this summer and another in Aston, Delaware County next year. A third Delaware County hospital location is being explored.
