PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for the driver who slammed into a car on City Avenue in Wynnefield Heights late Thursday night, sending the vehicle into a SEPTA bus, and then pulled out a gun and opened fire.

According to police, a 21-year-old man had just finished his shift at Chipotle and got into his girlfriend’s car around 11 p.m. As they pulled onto City Avenue, near Presidential Boulevard, a car crashed into them, sending them into a SEPTA bus.

Investigators said the offending driver then fired about 24 gunshots, riddling the other car with bullets. The 21-year-old man was hit at least six times.

The victim got out and ran across the road, toward the Lower Merion Township side, where authorities found him and took him to a nearby hospital. Police said he is in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Officials said his girlfriend was not injured. No one on the bus was hurt.

“There was a bunch of bullets. Scary. Literally terrifying. I want to cry,” one bus passenger told NBC10, still shaking. “Everybody hit the floor. I laid on the nasty floor. It was gross. But I don’t know where the bullets went. Thankfully they didn’t come through the bus.”

Police do not have any information on the suspect, who fled the scene. They are looking through surveillance footage from the SEPTA bus and nearby buildings to find more.
