PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new exhibit opened at City Hall on Thursday. It offers a sneak peek into what organizers hope will be housed at the Philadelphia Museum of Sports.
Mosaics of seven influential sports figures, including Connie Mack, Ed Snider and Billie Jean King, are on display on the first floor of City Hall.
"This inaugural exhibit will be in City Hall for the summer. And then we're hoping to give them a permanent home where we can tell more stories about the sports champions we've celebrated,” said Brett Mandel, executive director of the Philadelphia Museum of Sports.
For years, the organization has been raising money to establish that permanent home.
They are currently eyeing renting the ground floor of the old Lits Building at Seventh and Market streets. Mandel said that it will require about $2 million.
"Right now we have less than a quarter-million dollars on hand,” Mandel said.
The exhibit will be up through the summer. Organizers hope the City Hall display will bring more attention to the fundraising effort.
