COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Crowds of unruly teens wreaked havoc at a haunted hayride event and nearby Wawa over the weekend in South Jersey, causing both sites to shut down.
A PTA-sponsored haunted hayride took place Saturday night at Knight Park in Collingswood. Around 8:30 p.m., Collingswood police said more than 200 juveniles were dropped off.
Soon after, officials said juveniles and young adults were cutting lines, acting unruly, running around “recklessly,” and fighting. The event was shut down as officers dispersed the crowds.
Meanwhile, police said more than 50 juveniles had crammed into a nearby Wawa, where they were causing a disturbance and stealing items. The store had to close early to “prevent further damage and theft.”
Officers who were still by the park then asked for additional help, as about 80 people were engaged in a massive fight, officials said. Juveniles punched, kicked and pushed past them to keep fighting, according to police.
Law enforcement dispersed the crowds again.
No one was arrested. The incidents are under investigation.
