PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The rapid development of artificial intelligence is making handheld devices more important than ever.

The latest research and developments are in the field of ophthalmology, where images of the eye combined with artificial intelligence are being studied to improve the accuracy of prescription glasses and to evaluate and warn about diseases like diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

There will always be a need for ophthalmologists and optometrists, but it is anticipated that their roles will change as more information can be gathered in remote settings.

Studies are also being conducted in many areas of traditional health care, which could revolutionize treatment and how we use the medical system.
