PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A combination of staffing shortages and a surge in COVID-19 patients has caused one Delaware County hospital to temporarily close its emergency room.
Starting Friday, Springfield Hospital will shut down its emergency department, pathology, lab and medical imaging.
Parent company Crozer Health says this will allow staff to help out in other areas of the health system.
Outpatient services including rehab and physicians' offices will remain open.
All Delaware County hospitals are operating at capacity. The county health department has called in the Medical Reserve Corps to assist short-staffed hospitals.
