PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people were killed and two others injured in a “catastrophic collision” in North Philadelphia’s Juniata neighborhood Saturday night, according to police.

Authorities said the crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of K Street and East Hunting Park Avenue in Juniata. A Jeep, traveling at a high rate of speed, drove through a red light while heading west on Hunting Park and collided with a Lexus traveling south on K Street. They said the collision left both vehicles severely damaged and disabled.

First responders arrived at the scene around midnight.

The driver of the Lexus, a 60-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, a 55-year-old man, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died a short time later.

The driver of the Jeep, a 23-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 25-year-old man, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been announced.
