PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Art Museum announced a new leader on Friday.

Daniel H. Weiss will be the new director and CEO, effective Dec. 1. He is expected to guide the museum through at least 2028.

Weiss was the president of Haverford College from 2013 to 2015 and the head of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from 2015 to 2023.

Weiss replaces Sasha Suda, who was fired earlier this month following the controversial rebranding of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the Philadelphia Art Museum.

She served three years of her five-year contract.

The lawsuit says Suda was the victim of breach of contract, unfair treatment and abuse. She claims she was not given a chance to defend herself during a “sham investigation” that “reached false conclusions.”

The suit, filed on Nov. 10 in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, says the museum “engaged in a malicious campaign of retaliation, disparagement and humiliation.” She alleges she was falsely portrayed as “misusing museum funds for personal gain.”

Suda seeks a jury trial and two years’ severance pay and damages.
