Daughter finds mother shot, killed in Philadelphia house

Two mothers have been killed by gunfire already this year, after 60 women were homicide victims in 2021

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was found dead by her daughter in her home in the Strawberry Mansion/Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia, police said Tuesday evening.

The shooting happened near the corner of North Taney Street and West Montgomery Avenue.

The victim, 43, was found shot twice in the face in a bedroom, according to authorities. No one was initially arrested in the case, and no weapon was recovered at the scene.

The woman was the second mother to be killed in the new year.

Tasena Jennings, 35, was killed in front of her son Monday night in the Castor Gardens section of Northeast Philadelphia. 60 women were homicide victims in the city during 2021.

In another incident Tuesday night, police say a 33-year-old man was shot seven times throughout his body.

That shooting happened at about 6:20 p.m. on North 56th St.

Police took the man to the hospital, where he was placed in critical condition.

There was no initial word of any arrest or recovery of a weapon.
