PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This year's Phillies Wall of Fame inductee is one of the most important members in the history of the franchise.
Former team President and CEO David Montgomery will posthumously be inducted on Saturday, Aug. 17 during Alumni Weekend at Citizens Bank Park.
Montgomery spent 48 years rising through the Phillies organization from working in the ticket office to becoming a top executive. He was in charge of the franchise during one of its most successful eras: 2007 through 2011, which included a 2008 World Championship.
“No person deserves to be this year’s honoree more than David Montgomery, who led the effort to design and build our ballpark and presided over one of the best eras in Phillies baseball,” said Phillies Managing Partner and CEO John Middleton. “This will be a very special tribute for our fans and Phillies family, as David becomes the 48th inductee of the Toyota Wall of Fame."
The ceremony will be before that night's 6:05 p.m. game against the Nationals — day two of the three-day Alumni Weekend.
Montgomery passed away in 2019 after a five-year battle with cancer.
