Philly legend Dawn Staley becomes highest-paid coach in women's college basketball

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)Philly basketball legend Dawn Staley is now the highest-paid coach in women's college basketball after receiving a contract extension from the University of South Carolina.

The extension includes a signing bonus and is worth more than $25 million. It runs through 2030 and boosts her annual base salary to $4 million, which will increase by $250,000 each year.

Staley, a Dobbins Vocational High School alumna, has been with the Gamecocks for three years. In 2024, they went undefeated and won the national championship.

She coached women's hoops at Temple University for eight years before heading south and leading the Owls to four conference championships. And in 2021, she guided the United States women's basketball team to the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
