PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An investigation is underway after several dead puppies were found on a golf course in Chester County on Monday. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Caln Township police said seven dead puppies were discovered near the ninth hole of the Ingleside Golf Course in Thorndale. The puppies appeared to be from the same litter. They were a pit bull-terrier mix and approximately 4 to 6 weeks old.
“These are little tiny puppies and were probably still nursing, and it’s just a really sad situation,” said Sara Smith, spokesperson for the Brandywine Valley SPCA, the organization assisting police in the investigation.
“It was just a horrific scene,” added Caln Township Police Chief Joseph Elias, “one that someone would not expect to find in plain view.”
Elias said the puppies were discovered mid-morning by a staff member. He could not share further details about the scene, as it is an active investigation.
The puppies were “likely placed there within 12 to 16 hours before they were found,” he said. “The ninth green is the farthest green from the clubhouse.”
Police hope someone will come forward with more information that can assist investigators in identifying whoever is responsible.
