NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Another dead whale has been found floating offshore in New Jersey — this time in Seaside Park, Ocean County.

As of 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, the humpback whale did not wash ashore.

When it does, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine tells KYW Newsradio it will send staff members to the site to take samples.

This comes two days after a dead dolphin was founded on the beach in Avalon. A necropsy done Wednesday preliminarily found the dolphin had pneumonia.

About a dozen whales have washed ashore along New Jersey and New York beaches since December.

Experts say that ship strikes were the cause of death for a majority of those whales.
