PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three 17-year-olds were killed, and a 15-year-old was seriously injured when a car fleeing police crashed Tuesday night in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s office said police were called around 9 p.m. to the Target at Ridge Pike and Township Line Road for a reported theft in progress.
Officers tried to stop a car believed to be involved, but the car fled. About 15 minutes later, the car crashed on Ridge Pike near Turtle Creek Golf Course, less than two miles from the Target.
Three teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene, all 17 years old: Gabrel Cooper, Nasir Youk, and Siniyah Neuswan. A 15-year-old was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released his name.
Owen J. Roberts School District Superintendent Will Stout sent a message to the community stating two current students and a former student were killed in a crash, and another was seriously injured.
The message added grief counselors are available through the school, and it asks to keep “the families in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.”
The crash comes just days before Owen J. Roberts’ graduation ceremonies, which are scheduled for Friday.
Montgomery County detectives are continuing to investigate the crash.
