MAGNOLIA, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A utility worker is dead and several other people are injured after a car crashed into a work zone on White Horse Pike in Magnolia, Camden County.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on North White Horse Pike. Officials said an older woman drove through the Produce Junction parking lot and hit the American Water workers. A store employee who viewed surveillance footage said the driver rapidly accelerated over the grass and hit the group of workers, slamming one of them into oncoming traffic. Another car and a garbage truck were also struck.

One worker was killed and three others were injured. One of the injured workers was hospitalized in critical condition, while the other two suffered bumps and bruises.

The driver was taken to the hospital to determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Magnolia Police Chief John Huston said investigators are still unsure what caused the crash.
