PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man killed two people in Chester overnight before he was shot and killed by police, officials said.
It happened just after midnight on the 900 block of Barclay Street, a quiet block across from Chester High School.
Neighbor Terrell Jones was woken up by the disturbance. “When I looked out the window upstairs, he was jumping on top of my husband’s car … like it’s a trampoline,” she said.
Jones said she had never seen the man before.
When police arrived on the scene, they found the man attacking a woman with a knife. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon but he ignored their commands.
An officer then shot the suspect, killing him, the Delaware County District Attorney's Office said. The woman who was stabbed also died.
Officers then entered the home, where they found another man who had been shot and killed. A second woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
“It was totally unexpected,” said Jones. “They’re not even a rowdy family or make that much noise. They’re kind of new to the neighborhood.”
“I’ve been here for 30 years and we’ve never had a murder here,” said Muhammad Mussa, who lives down the street.
A dog was also shot in the face during the incident. The Brandywine Valley SPCA took it in to treat it for non-critical injuries.
Officials said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. Police are continuing to investigate.
