PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police said a driver struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the street in University City Wednesday morning, then fled the scene.

Officials said it happened around 5:30 a.m. on Spruce Street, near University Avenue.

Blood was splattered on the street, and the victim’s shoes and some car debris were left behind.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The victim did not have any ID on him. Investigators later identified him as 55-year-old Jonathan Mack.

Officials said the 41-year-old driver fled the scene but later reported the incident to police at a nearby station.

Her vehicle, a Buick Enclave, was located at 49th Street and Larchwood Avenue, about 10 blocks away from the scene. No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.
