HONEY BROOK, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — At least one person was killed in a home explosion and fire in Chester County early Friday morning.
The quiet neighborhood near Hunters Run and Henderson roads in Honey Brook was rattled by a blast around 5 a.m.
Corey Mortzfield and his family felt it from their home about 100 yards away.
“The wall that our bed is on started shaking. The explosions woke me up. It was three separate explosions,” he said, each about 10 seconds apart.
“First, I thought it was something in our house. Then I checked — it wasn’t anything, so went back to bed. Then about 15, 20 minutes later, I hear firetrucks show up.”
At least one person was killed. Most of the house was destroyed.
“We’re the corner house, so I can only imagine what it was like right next to the house,” Mortzfield added.
The fire was extinguished by sunrise.
Pennsylvania State Police said this was an isolated incident and there were no threats to the public. The exact cause is under investigation.
