PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An early-morning house fire in Hatfield killed two adults on Friday.

Investigators believe the fire started on the first floor around 4:15 a.m. The house is located on Washington Lane near Truman Drive.

Officials say firefighters from Hatfield, Towamencin, Fairmount, Lansdale, Perseverance of Souderton and Hilltown responded to the scene. They said heavy fire conditions were at the front of the home and that two of the five adult residents were still trapped inside when they arrived.

The firefighters got the bulk of the fire under control on the first floor and proceeded to the second floor where they found and rescued a man and woman inside two of the bedrooms who were transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities say both died from their injuries.

A third person was also taken to a hospital for burn injuries — his condition is not yet known.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
