PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and three others were hurt in a series of car crashes on Roosevelt Boulevard in North Philadelphia early Friday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., police said two drivers, ages 55 and 31, got into a crash on the northbound side of Roosevelt Boulevard, near the Broad Street overpass.
Those cars were then hit by two other cars, so the drivers hopped the 3-foot concrete median to get to the southbound side to avoid getting hit. But, police said, a driver in a Toyota ended up hitting them both.
The 55-year-old victim was killed. The 31-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where he is in extremely critical condition.
The 21-year-old driver who hit them stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Back on the other side of Roosevelt Boulevard where the original crashes happened, two others were hurt but are in stable condition.
The crashes — and whether slick road conditions were a factor — are under investigation.
