PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and three others were hurt in a crash on Roosevelt Boulevard in North Philadelphia early Friday morning.

It was around 3:30 a.m. when a 56-year-old man, for unknown reasons, got out of his car on the northbound side of Roosevelt Boulevard near the Broad Street overpass. Police said the man ended up going over the concrete median and onto the southbound side, where a driver hit him.

The victim died; the driver stayed on the scene.

Then, three cars crashed on the northbound side, where the victim left his car. A 31-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The two other adults who were injured were listed in stable condition.

The exact cause of the crash — whether slick road conditions played a role — is under investigation.

Roosevelt Boulevard is closed in both directions between Broad and Ninth streets, and there are significant backups in North Philadelphia as people try to get around the closure.
